Schools Observing Moment of Silence

New this school year in alignment with Idaho Code 33-1639, our schools are providing a designated daily 60-second moment of silence across all classrooms.

As parents and guardians, you are encouraged— and have the right —to talk with your child and guide them on how best to utilize this time in accordance with your family's beliefs and values.

Students may use this minute to reflect, meditate, pray, or engage in any other silent, non-disruptive activity that does not impede others.

Staff members will facilitate the quiet minute but will not offer guidance, direction, or instruction on how students spend this time.

Our staff will exercise care and thoughtful discretion to ensure every child enjoys a peaceful, uninterrupted moment of silence.

Safety Spotlight

ACHD makes improvements near Hubbard, FMS, KHS

We are working with the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) on safety improvements for our students. Two of those happening now impact Hubbard Elementary School, Fremont Middle School, and Kuna High School.

Porter & Kay: A new street light requested by the district has been installed to increase intersection visibility. This was the site of a scooter/vehicle accident last year.

Porter & Cambrick: A new button-activated flashing crosswalk is on the way. Following a brief contractor transition, construction is set to begin within the next four weeks.

The district continues to work with ACHD on other projects to support safe routes for our students.

Did you know? Projects like these are funded by Vehicle Registration Fees (VRF), which generate ~$14M annually for local repairs, congestion relief, and safe routes to school. A renewal of these fees (with no proposed increase) will be on the November ballot as current funding sunsets in 2028.

Please Check E-bikes for Legal Compliance

Parent Action Needed: If your child rides an electric-powered device to school, please verify that it has manufacturer-installed operable pedals and a motor rated under 750 watts.

As the new school year begins, our school resource officers ask all parents to review Idaho's e-bike laws with their students before allowing them to ride to school. Many of the electric motorcycles and high-powered "e-bikes" being sold today do not meet Idaho's legal definition of an electric-assisted bicycle.

Students should not ride or bring any electric-powered bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, or similar vehicle to school unless it complies with Idaho law.

Vehicles that exceed Idaho's e-bike limits may be considered motor vehicles and are subject to different legal requirements such as driver’s licensing, registration, and insurance. Thank you for helping us keep our campus safe for everyone.

Our School Emergency Actions

Our district uses clear emergency response commands so students and staff can act quickly to stay safe.

Our schools regularly practice these procedures so students and staff are ready should they be needed.

Here is a quick guide to what these commands mean and what happens during each one (Click the title to view a short video about the procedures):

LOCKDOWN!: Used when there is an immediate safety threat. Students move out of sight, stay completely silent, and do not open the door. Teachers lock classroom doors, turn off the lights, and keep everyone secure.

HALL CHECK!: Used when staff need to clear the hallways. Students return to their classrooms, doors are locked, and learning continues inside. No one is allowed outside or in the hallways until the check is clear.

EVACUATION!: Used to move everyone out of the building to a safe location. Students leave their belongings behind, bring their phones, and follow their teachers in an orderly line to a safe location outside.

REVERSE EVACUATION!: Used when a potential danger is outside the building. Students and staff who are outdoors quickly move back inside the school, go to their classrooms, and take attendance.

Coming This Year: See, Tell, Now Tip Line

Our school district will launch Idaho’s See, Tell, Now safety program after the start of the school year.

The See, Tell, Now (STN) tip line is a safe, confidential way for students, families, staff, and community members to report safety concerns.

What You Can Report: You can report issues such as bullying, threats, self-harm, violence, drugs, or anything else that seems out of place.

How It Works:
  • SEE: Pay attention when you are in or around our schools. If you notice something odd, unusual, or out of place, trust your instincts.
  • TELL: Speak up right away. You can submit tips 24/7/365 using the See Tell Now mobile app, website, or phone line. Trained professionals review every report immediately to help keep students safe.
  • NOW: Don’t wait or hesitate. If something looks wrong, report it right away. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Important: The See, Tell, Now tip line is not a substitute for calling 911. In an immediate emergency, always call 911 first.

Remember: If you SEE something, TELL someone, do it NOW!

Facility Upgrades Keep Kids Cool, Warm & Dry

This summer we spent millions in state money earmarked for projects most students, staff, and visitors can't see but will definitely feel. Crews are finishing up projects, here's a recap:
  • HVAC Replacements: Kuna High School, Indian Creek Elementary, and Ross Elementary
  • Fire Alarm Replacement: Kuna High School
  • Roof Replacement: Reed Elementary
  • Water Heaters: Reed Elementary and Crimson Point Elementary.
All of this invisible-yet-essential work was made possible by dedicated school repair funding from the Idaho Legislature.
